PART THREE: What was I Thinking?!

It was the year, 2000~the new millennium!

This year was to be a very big year for my family; my two nephews were getting married

and in February of that magic year, at the Market Square trade show, a sales rep

from The Cracker Barrel restaurants comes into my booth

asking questions regarding one particular item... A snowflake Christmas light cover.

I've always heard, "be careful what you wish for,"

never really understanding the ramifications of the quote until the day I received the wholesale order of a lifetime.

I have to be honest, I can not remember, 10 years later, the actual amount that was ordered; but, you will be able to see from all the photos, it was thousands!

So after taking out a 2nd mortgage, ordering all that wood, paint, make up (yes!) I gather my team together... (above, left to right, Dad, Mom & myself)

My dad would do the top coat of all the snowflakes - with a sponge roller!

My mom, (above) was blushing the snowflakes and I am showing all the bandaids on my fingers as I would wire each and every ornament.

We finally realized that we needed more help... I can't begin to explain all the steps it takes to make one of these snowflakes and I never realized how many steps it took until I was neck deep in wooden snow!!

My beautiful Aunts, Fanny & Sara, who helped in any way they could.

My sweet & wonderful cousins! These ladies are my rocks ~ we are together working crying and laughing!!

As you can see, it's my family that kept me sane during these months in 2000, in my parent's basement-as it was switched over to a crazed workshop!

~Con't of PART THREE~

So you can see (left) that we had many tables with a constant rotation of family and friends.

If you couldn't paint, you could cut material for his little bow tie.

Here, you see two beautiful ladies, who are dear friends and fortunately for me, decided to marry some male family members!

Both volunteered to help and it was getting really crazy by the time they started working! I wonder what was in that blue glass?

From left to right ~ Boxes of finished ornaments waiting to be tagged and packed... then go to our glitter and packing department! Believe it or not, after all the basement work... the finished product was glittered too!! So the garage became the next place to work!

Nothing stopped these 70 year olds!

After they were boxed up, the finished boxes were stored in my living/dining room ~ thank goodness I didn't have any furniture in the house at the time!

All these photos were taken in a course of 3 months ~ during the summer of 2000.

I made absolutely NO money off this order; and if I had to pay for help, I would have lost money.

We all refer to this as the summer of the snowflake ~ no need to say anything else.

What I learned from this summer was:

1. my family & friends love me

2. get a lawyer to look over a contract prior to signing

3. we all have the strength to get through anything

PART TWO: the doll years

Hello again! So last time I left you with the promise of seeing some photos of the dolls

I made years ago.

A few of them were tucked away, poor babies, but this doll (seen below) is

sitting in my newly painted sitting room. You know, I forgot to check her out to see what year I made her, ( I would date them) but I know it was before 2000.

Well for a dolly that's over 10 years old, she's aging pretty well!

Her body is soft but the trick to give her some weight ~ split peas!

Yes! A part of her bum is filled with split peas.

Back in the 90's, my mom was in charge of making the bodies; she had a bag of dried split peas on hand and thought, "this may work"~ it did!

She, the dolly, not my mom, has a wooden head and a hand made wig that I finally figured out how to make after a year of gluing strands of hair piece by piece onto their heads!

I believe I was the one at the time who also had a wooden head. :D

Her dress is made of Calico and Corduroy; but what always caught a customer's eye ~ her shoes!

I ADORE shoes, so of course why wouldn't I put them on my dollies?!

I have to tell you about this great pair of red patent Mary Jane's I .... oh, I'm sorry, the dolls, yes. I had, just had, to put lacy socks on her too. It would be a sin not to have lacy socks with a nice pair of Mary Jane's

Below, are photos of dolls that were named: Halo Dolls.

And for the life of me, I can't remember now why I gave them that name!

At the time, especially when making dolls, I needed to have several different sizes and price points. Back then, they always had a problem standing.

I think they drank too much while I had them stored away... I know I would always hear music while in the workroom! ; D

I must say, thinking back to the times making these wonderful dolls, I did have fun and it gave me a bit of diversity; plus when I got bored painting... I just moved onto sewing!

The doll (above) is made of a combination of wood and of course her hand sewn dress.

So, there you have it in a quick nutshell ~ my dolls.

The dolls you see in this post were my samples and I've had offers to give them new homes; but I just can not bear to separate myself from them. That means something, right?

Well, I think 2011 may be the year of the dolly comeback!!

I must say, that I have been very blessed to be a part of a wonderful Etsy Team:

The Etsy Twitter Team; and this week, I will be SOTW (shop of the week).

This means that I was lucky enough to be interviewed by one of my lovely team members; this article can be seen on our Team Blog (just click on the link).

Along with previous Shops of the Week! (so check those out too).

But for this week, I am attempting to open myself up a bit online on my blog and let everyone see how, From Nancy's Heart, originated.

I'm going to share some treasured secrets, along with original ornaments; drawing & sketches; items that have been put to rest along with those designs coming for 2010.

So I hope you enjoy this trip into the history of From Nancy's Heart and please stop by my shoppe and drop a line to say, "HI"!

PART ONE: a new beginning

So it's 1992, I find myself laid off from a job I had for 5 years.

I had been doing crafts for some time prior to this, doing various craft shows.

Primarily, I made dolls. I love dolls, have I ever mentioned that? Possibly not.

Well, back to the dolls- I'll post a photo of them tomorrow; they (the dolls) were a major part of my "line" as it were. I was known as the girl who sold dolls.

All the dolls either had wooden heads or wooden legs & bodies... there even was a year that I only made spool dolls; but, no matter what I made ~ I would always make it out of wood!

Now, finding myself laid off ~ which is exactly the time you take chances ~ I decided to go into wholesale! I had NO idea how to go about it & how to display a booth, I think you have the picture... but I did it anyway.

Above is my very first business card! I was dating a fellow who is a natural artist and came up with this "Dolly" design. That Little Girl logo has been with me for over 17 years!

My sister even had a sign commissioned, believing that I would one day

open a brick n mortar shop! I'll show you all that tomorrow as well!

Oh, and my very first wholesale experience? Well, although I stuck out like a sore thumb with my booth design (there really wasn't one); but with my Mom at my side,

we wrote up enough orders to continue for another year.

By the way, that boyfriend, now my husband, designed my new business logo

(below) when I decided to open up my Etsy Shoppe!

Inspired by the cover of Somerset Studio (see photo above), Tricia came up with her own twist on this romantic way of marking a classic read or as shown above, a wonderful way of making a stack of vintage books just shine.

A New Start ~ Warming it up for Fall

Ten Minute Apple Crumble Recipe

Today, as I was poking around Twitter, I found this Recipe, the original posting from "CRAFT" website, by Andrew Lewis

I wanted to start the fall season off on a Yummy foot. It's been some time, I believe before summer, since my last post; so, I wanted to do it up right with food!

This quick apple crumble recipe can be a real lifesaver when unexpected guests arrive. Making the crumble takes about 10 minutes, which is roughly the same time it takes to percolate a good cup of coffee.

Ingredients

2 large apples (NOT cooking apples)
2 cups broken, plain biscuits (plain cookies)
3 tbsp brown or white sugar
2 tbsp margarine (or butter)
1/2 tsp vanilla essence

Make a Beaded Chandelier by Heather

Lately, at my house, everything is turned topsy turvy ~ and upside down...

I've had the terrific idea of making my sitting room, the dining room ~ and making the very small dining room into a cozy sitting room.

My dining room was always way too small to have more than 3 people at the table; however, my living room was nicely decorated but never used and 4 feet wider than the dining room ~ so, BING, I get this idea ~

I was lucky enough to know an electrician who put up a chandelier for me in my "NEW DINING ROOM" ~ now it's paint colors I'm choosing and boy do I love the colors I can choose from ~

But now, there's that pesky hole in the ceiling where the old chandelier use to be and I was checking on line for some ideas ~ and here's this terrific one for indoor or even out!

This idea was submitted by Heather at The Dollar Store Crafts Facebook page and later blogged: here, at the Dollar Store/Dollar Tree Craft's Blog.

This is her story: "For months I had been trying to find a good base for a chandelier at the dollar store, and it wasn't until my three year-old son called the wire baskets a "chandelier" that it clicked."

"A few months ago, Dollar Tree started selling their seasonal gardening stuff, including hanging wire baskets (and yes, they were only a dollar!)"

Project Materials:

Hanging wire basket, $1

6 packages of Mardi Gras-style metallic beads (about 48 necklaces), $6

Light gauge wire (floral wire will work), $1

Spray paint, $1

Wire cutters, on hand or $1

Hot glue gun & sticks, on hand

Additional embellishments, as desired

Total: $9 and up

"Attaching the bead necklaces together: As you wire your chandelier, you will hot glue one end of the necklace to the end of the next necklace. I recommend doing this as you go to keep everything nice and neat (and untangled). Remember to be careful when handling the hot glue!"

Wiring the bottom of the chandelier:

"Take your first necklace, and a piece of wire. Wrap the wire securely around the thread between the first two beads and twist around once or twice to make sure the wire won't come apart from the necklace. Then wire the necklace to the top of the wire basket form. Wrap the wire around the basket securely, and twist at least twice to make sure it's secure. Leave the end of the wire long for now."

As an aside, Heather does suggest that you spray paint your necklaces first to get an even coverage...

For me, I think I would still try after, because, knowing how I work, I would end up scratching off the coverage.

"Of course, these baskets are great bases for any kind of chandelier you can imagine! You might have a little trouble finding them at your dollar store now (they sell out quickly), but you can get them for about $5 at your local big-box store. I know that's not as great a price as $1, but it's still pretty cheap for a great chandelier base. The dollar store also has wire baskets that will work decently for chandelier bases. Try those and let me know how they work out for you!"

This was such a terrific idea ~ and I'm going to try one out and use it outside with some small votive candles!

My Own Personal Celebration!

For my nephew and myself, the 5th of May was and still is a fun time ~ with it being the midpoint between both our birthdays, there has been many times that Cinco de Mayo was our Birthday celebration. So for us, it became a little joke. When the postal stamp (above) was in use, we sent birthday cards using the stamp plus, adding more stamps on the envelope just for fun.

So from our crazy, fun loving family to yours ~ I wish you celebration, love, peace and independence... with a bit of Flan & of course a good drink!!

The Vintage Sister

This is a high quality print of an original painting. It was done in acrylics with craft papers, vintage french text and pencil detail.

Sunny Days...

Today was such a lovely day... rarely do I wake with a happiness that makes me sing (especially that early in the morning!); yet, today, was that day.

So off I went to do my daily errands ~

First, go see my most favorite hair stylist, Tonia ~

What a lovely gal, Tonia, and I believe that she will have me on roller skates before the summertime ends ~ with a wonderful hair cut!

After a lovely cup of tea with my friend, off I went through the park, spotting some sweet dolls peeking out among the blooms. My favorite shoppe is just around the corner ~ where the dollies were pointing the way.

Mr. Angelo's grocery store...

All his veggies are so bright and fresh. I just love the smells of all the fruits and baked goods there! There are times, I just hang around chatting with Mr. Angelo just to soak in the cheery atmosphere of his grocery shoppe!

I was swept away by all the wonderful colors that I found in the grocery store. Thank goodness I had a great friend with me who had a camera phone! So many sunny colors on this sunny day! Perhaps one day I will purchase the "spiny melon", first, I have to stop laughing every time I say the name ~

So, I made my way back home...

while looking at the bounty I purchased today, I gathered together items in the craft room that would match all the wonderful colors I saw during my walk.

I recently did an interview, where I was asked where I found my inspiration ~ believe it, I really didn't have a clue; yet as I walked through the city, I found spots of vibrant colors that just made their mark in my brain!

My girl just LOVES her Easter!! And she was so very thoughtful with sending me a sweetie bunny of my own!

Let me tell you, my little Pinkie, that's what I named her ~ was already getting into mischief! Seeing the trim on the table, she just had to start playing.

This week, I chose to talk about my pal, Doreen, of Sea Horse Designs. I met Doreen at the Handmade Faire ~ organized by two great Etsy NJ Women Abbie & Pola ~ the show was a wonderful mixture of talent and we all met those members with whom we chat via email, daily.

I know that this week, Easter & Passover is upon us; however, the crafter in me is looking ahead towards Mother's Day. Crazy, you say?! I think it's always a great time to think of those special women in our lives that have inspired us and loved us ~ whether they are our Moms, Aunts, Sisters, Grandmothers, or even Friends/Mentors.

So I chose Sea Horse Designs, because of all the wonderful items she creates ~

Here's my Newest baby, Molly McBunny!

She was a bit shy for these first photos, but she did warm up much later... I don't think she's use to being in the limelight.

After taking a trip to the grocery store, I stopped along the way at a lovely little fabric shoppe called, The Little Shoppe. There you can find almost any fabric your heart desires.

Once I saw these lovely polka dots, there was no stopping me from going fabric happy!

As Molly was being all shined up, it just seemed fated that she would get this wonderfully festive dress!

Molly is sporting the newest fashion in Bunnywear ~ Christian Duckior!

I think she is the first at her farm with this wonderful Ducky Tote!

Here's a close up (picture below) of this fabulous designer's creation... such detail!

It's no wonder, Molly is the talk of her warren!

After all the "official" photos were taken, Molly was begging me to take just one more picture, but this time holding her favorite Fabunny Egg! She's all about the fashion and bling, this little bunny; but I know down deep she's just a country girl at heart.

A few weeks ago, I received a request to customize a doll for a special 1st birthday celebration. Little Sadie Jane is the sunshine in her mother’s eyes and I was blessed to be able to be included in this special little girl’s 1st Birthday.

How special it is to be apart of someone’s life. I have been amazed, going into someone’s home (a friend’s friend whom I did not know) and found my ornaments hanging on their Christmas tree ~ that was an incredible surprise and one that I’ve never forgotten. So to have a request like this, just makes me feel so lucky.

Here’s Little Red in love stationery set created by Happy Papers Sadie’s mom picked for the party.

Isn’t it just lovely... she has so many of the sweetest downloads for your own graphics to use to celebrate that special event.

During the making of Little Sadie, I thought, after seeing the invitations that I should include some of the newest items that I’ve been experimenting with ~ lovely wooden mushrooms in pastel colors. So not only with Sadie have a special dolly but also some really cute mushrooms to remember me by!!

And here’s Little Sadie (pictured above)! In searching for material for this cutie, I found some big polka dotted red material but when my friend, Nancy, sent me some material that she had ~ there were several pieces for really cool fabrics, there it was, this wonderfully petite red polka dot material that was perfect for Little Sadie!!

So many thanks to my wonder pal, Nancy ~

And my best wishes to the lovely little girl who’s cute face will be covered in Birthday frosting in another few weeks!

I use the word "wrappin' " because this fine lady is wrapping everyone and everything we love the most with her wonderful creations; be it a loved one's lap, a cute curly top's head, even a coffee/tea (that's for me) cup ~ she's got them all covered.

It's kinda like a Sock Hop, because there is a party goin' on ~

I forgot all about it last week, so I'm trying to get a jump on it early and write about a nifty gal livin' in NJ and her shoppe,

When you first enter the shoppe of Pancakeandlulu, you are just hit with these wonderful array of colors and textures.

Pattern Your Life into Greatness

Recently, my pal, Juliane, of Froken Skicklig, posted a giveaway for a free pattern to celebrate the much anticipated line of Doll Patterns she is creating.

My that gal is very, very busy and I am so very proud of her!

These are just a few items that my pal creates ~ just amazing to me!

Well, this got me thinking.

When I was young~ oh, so many years ago~ my Aunt, who was the family seamstress taught me how to sew; or should I say, tried to teach me?!

I remember those summer days, spending time over her house, sitting by the sewing machine making so many things: a dolman sleeved top - in a sage green; a calico skirt~ yes, ladies, they started with our generation; and the ultimate summer project ~ a WHITE LINED BLAZER. Oh baby, that thing took the whole summer, shoulder pads and ALL.

(Check out the price on that pattern, too!! :D)

I think I still have these projects somewhere; and I know that linen blazer is yellowing now in a box at my mother's house; but it's the times together that I'll remember. I learned how to sew straight seams; because, she made me sit with lined paper at an unthreaded machine for a day and sew on the blue lines, as she told me stories of her days in school. I learned that my Aunt was a fun girl and how I would have loved to travel in a time machine and become friends with her.

My point... help a child create. You'll not only be sharing your talent but also that precious time that they will always remember; even if it's just gluing curly macaroni on a papier mache box!

the looks of it ~ she's got some really terrific items.

Lovely Tutorial from the Tooth Fairy

As I anticipate the coming of SPRING!! - (wish, wish - my fingers are crossed) -

Also in our family are all sorts of renewals.

I have many nieces and nephews, now many are approaching the "Tooth Fairy" age.

What a cool time in a child's life! Personally, I can remember constantly wiggling that tooth loose just to get all the coins from the Tooth Fairy!

So I wanted to just post a tutorial from one of my favorite spots: Purlbee!

Here's a great and colorful way to help the Tooth Fairy find that loose tooth - and also a great way to keep all those coins, as well.

Here's the finished pieces (above) and they are just so darn cute that I just can't believe it!

So simple to make as well. It's a truly easy project, no sewing machine is even required; just a few stitches here and there and it's done!

This is such a wonderful idea for pre-schoolers and you know, keeping the design simple is good, but if you lived in my house, you'd know that we'd have to jazzy up the bag with a bit of Fairy Dust. :D

There's quite a story behind the Olympic flowers

After every Olympic event, rather than receiving their medals, athletes are given a bouquet of flowers. At the Beijing Olympics, roses dominated the bouquets. In Turin, it was rhododendrons, azaleas, and camellias. This year, it's green mums and hypericum berries.

The bouquets come from Just Beginnings Flowers and Margitta's Flowers in Surrey, British Columbia. Their entry was chosen from 58 contending florists. June Strandberg, the bouquet designer and owner of Just Beginnings, teaches floristry to women who have left prison, are recovering from addiction, or have been victims of violence. It's a pretty amazing program, and Strandberg has even taken it behind bars, where she educates convicts. She believes it's her work with these correctional programs that secured the Olympic contract.

For the Vancouver Olympics the florists made 1,800 bouquets, 1,707 of which will be given to medal-winning athletes in the Olympics and Paralympics. The flowers are grown locally, but they aren't in season during February, so additional supplies were flown in from Ecuador.

The flowers were chosen to represent British Columbia and Canada, and are intended as keepsakes for the athletes. There are even strict regulations for the bouquets presented at the flower ceremonies. Per IOC protocol, bouquets must be 20 to 30 centimeters tall and about 25 centimeters across.

Though these flowers might look like something you give your mom at a homecoming football game, a lot of thought and planning goes into choosing and making these bouquets. When you consider the societal benefits behind these flowers, it almost makes the bouquets as valuable as the medals.

Snow Day Madness in Philadelphia

Not too many people know that by day, (or overnight!) I'm a freelance television engineer at a local television station in the city of Philadelphia; and I've been doing this particular job for over 10 years. Unfortunately, lately, there hasn't been too much work and I've found myself crafting, blogging (writing) and tweeting with the extra time, which I have so thoroughly enjoyed.

But when this opportunity arose to work during the Blizzard that we experienced here in the area, I thought I would take a few photos and just give you a backstage view of the morning news

Because the track of the storm was predicted to arrive in the area in the late afternoon; we were given hotel rooms to insure our arrival at work the next morning... so here's a picture from the window of my hotel room.

For the first time, I felt like a visitor in Philadelphia! This was an amazing view I had and I just couldn't get enough.

To the upper right of the pic, you'll see the Philadelphia Art Museum (those steps made famous in Rocky) and the road that leads up to it - Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Clockwise around Logan Circle the buildings are - (right) The Free Library; the dome building is The Cathedral of the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul; and across from the Cathedral is The Franklin Institute of Science Museum. It was amazing to me that there was very little traffic at 3pm... I think everyone was just trying to leave the city early!

Now here's the same view from the window around 9pm. As you can see, the snow was starting to come down and things were starting to get a bit hairy.

I was planning on taking another photo at 3am when I woke up but the white out condition was so terrible, it was impossible to make out a thing!

I should just say that we were expecting to get, roughly, 18" of snow and more accumulation further south of the city and into my home state of New Jersey. We have a tendency to not believe what we hear all the time regarding snow accumulations but this storm was a big one... and when there is a hugh storm, the station wants to go on the air as early as possible.

The station produces a daily, weekday, morning show which starts at 5am - so why not do this on Saturday!!

Here are just some candid photos I took of the work day just prior to and during the morning.

We went on the air at 5am - here are our two anchors (left) Ukee Washington & Liz Keptner just before the morning show began, reading over their scripts.

That terrific gal running to her desk is one of our Meteorologists, Maria LaRosa - hamming it up for the camera. This is a side view of the studio from the corner where my teleprompter station is located.

Everyone was getting ready for the day long event... with our coffees in hand!

Before we went on the air, there had been reports of such amazing snow accumulations all around the area - by show time, there had been at least 6" of snow in just under 4 hours.

And with that snow came so many traffic accidents - the snow plow drivers are the hardest working people in this type of weather; also along with all the health care workers... they don't get snow days!

Our traffic reporter, Bob Kelly, was showing us one of many pile ups that happened - this is a picture from one of the traffic cameras of cars getting stuck.

Apparently, the first car, (top, left) got stuck then the SUVs following trying to avoid hitting each other, all turned - but into an unplowed snowbank, leaving everyone stuck waiting for the tow trucks!

Here's Bob describing the situation... I took this picture of my work station with the monitor that I watch to see what's going on over the air.

The monitor on the right side of this photo is a computer screen showing, in different colors, the entire news show for that particular hour (we were on the air for over 8 hours that day) - it shows me all the stories that they will report or read during that show and the copy (text) that gets displayed for the teleprompter.

I'm really starting to feel my age now, because when I first worked in television, all the copy was still being written on HUGH cue cards.

Unfortunately, I was trying to be quick when taking the next picture and my poor buddy, Nico turned out just too blurry! Sorry!

So, this is a blurry picture of my pal Nico, who was working as the Floor Director.

His job is to let the talent in the studio (which includes the reporters and anchors) know of any changes; to cue them when they are on the air; and to alert them of any changes that will ALWAYS happen - especially on a snow day broadcast.

In this picture, he is standing next to a few cameras, while Bob Kelly was talking about the above traffic situation!

These cameras, once ran by camera men, are now operated remotely by one fellow, in another location. All the advancements to the industry...

This was later in the day, after the noon broadcast and everyone was getting ready for the next show.

Unfortunately, I was unable to get photos of EVERYONE who was working behind the scenes; because for the few people you see in these pictures, there are 3x's that hard at work making sure everyone gets their news.

I've missed working for almost 2 months but it was well worth coming back and being a part of this memorable weekend broadcast! Later today, I'm going to post the pictures of what it looked like driving home after the record snow... oh by the way, we received over 30" in New Jersey (the area I live, anyway!!) :D

Foxy G. Knits

Our gal, Lois Stifel, is one of many favorites in our Twitter Team. I think she must have been a cheerleader because she's always there for all of us - Tweeting for the team!

While reading her profile at her Etsy Shoppe, she talks about how she got the name, Foxy G. Knits. She says, "I have a little granddaughter who is going on two years old. When we were selecting our grandparent names, I joked that I would be “Grandma Lo” by day and “Foxy G.” by night. When I was trying to come up with a name for my shop, Foxy G. Knits was a natural!" And that's our Lois! She may be Grandma Lo - but to the team she'll forever be FOXY G!

Hand Knit Goddess Shawl Wrap - Mardi Gras: is the name of the above & below creation of Foxy G. Knits. The traditional colors of Mardi Gras are purple (symbolic of justice), green (symbolic of faith) and gold (symbolic of power). The accepted story behind the original selection of these colors originates from 1872 when the Grand Duke Alexis Romanoff of Russia visited New Orleans. During his stay, he was given the honor of selecting the official Mardi Gras colors. Thus, did these colors also become the colors of the House of Romanoff.

Unfortunately, I was unable to blog about last week's Shop of the Week for Etsy's Twitter Team - so I wanted to make up for that and get in a belated post for Wellspring Creations!

I have to say, what Judy of Wellspring Creations, creates such marvelous pieces;

blending both unique stones and her wire wrapping techniques, she shows us all how amazing simple objects are turned into wearable art.

She uses one of my favorite quotes by Michaelangelo to describe her pieces:

"Michaelangelo said that the marble told him what to carve...what it was meant to be. Similarly, I take great care to present each special stone in a setting that not only looks lovely, but is specially chosen to enhance its beauty."

This exquisite Deep Pink Rhodochrosite Pendant (above) has lovely white markings; it is an unusually high quality stone--referred to as "gemmy" by the trade. The setting is a wire wrapped sterling silver "net" that gives an airy appearance to this very feminine stone.

This lovely Natural Pink Rose Quartz Silver wrapped Pendant (above) is carved in a heart shape. Carefully wrapped in sterling silver wire, each side is different--it's like two handcrafted pendants in one. One side is sweeping loops topped with two asymmetric coils; the other, delicate netting topped with a swarovski crystal.

I've Never Been So Excited

I must admit, I haven't been this excited about a product of mine since...

well, I first started making 3 dimensional ornaments way, back when.

Years ago, I made dolls. Dolls of all shapes and sizes. I did well with these dolls of mine; but you know when you just don't "have" it anymore. Like, there was no excitement when I went to get material or even make a custom doll. So I stopped the dolls and concentrated on my ornaments.

I just LOVE making my ornaments and now, to be able to combine both my love of dolls with the unique style of my 3 D ornaments is a dream come true!

My Valentine Favorites

As I sit, recovering from a cold and watching so much devastation on television, I wanted to just send and feel some LOVE that I pray is going on around our world.

Remember those days in elementary school where we glued and cut our way into someone's heart? What's stopping us now?

Why must we rely on others for giving the love that we feel in our hearts?

Well, I know that smelting gold is difficult but I'll accept one of these pins in leu of gold;

Colorful Garlin tutorial...

As I was browsing on the web, I stopped by one of my FAV blogs - The Purlbee.

It's a great place to stop by, get ideas; and check out what's going on in NYC!

The Purlbee, is the blog of Purlsoho. A wonderful shoppe filled with colorful wools, cotton threads; and simply joyful fabrics - I've purchased wool from them on SEVERAL occasions and they've always been warm and gracious; just what a customer likes. ; )

But on this day of browsing and sneezing, I came across this terrific garlin that I just wanted to share.

They have this wonderful category, Molly's Sketchbook - where there are tutorials of all types for all skill levels: in crocheting, knitting, embroidery too!

This one caught my eye because I received this same type of garlin as a gift for Christmas!!

This one, created by Molly, is so much more colorful and just so much FUN.

Great idea for kids and if you wanted to change up for the Various Holidays... cut out shapes, ie, hearts or shamrocks!

Below, is my version of the Felt Garlin - a free gift from Anthropologie - it's a bit different from Molly's but the difference is something that makes it versatile... rather than glueing two pieces of felt together... it uses a parallel cut in the center of the circle to thread the cotton twine. Here (below), cording was used rather than a heavier twine - same cording used in fleece hoodies!

I'm going to try the colorful version for the Spring!! It will look just adorable on my tinsel tree! Check out Purlbee... it's just fabo!! :D

Will Luck by my lady?!

As the cold winter days continue, I've made a great friend in my sweater and a terrific box of tissues! Well I should say, several boxes of tissues - he had some friends! :D

But what brightened up my day was this letter I received from one of my pals and to say it was a chain letter would be a great description but it wasn't really - because if you didn't want to participate, you didn't have to - but I think you would have been called a wimp!!

(No, I'm just kidding about the wimp stuff!)

It didn't wish you 6 months of broken mirrors or anything... just lotto tickets!

The letter said to send out six lotto tickets and see what happens!

So I bundled myself up and off I went to the Wawa (local tri state convenience store) only to find that I can get a great cup of coffee but no tickets!

"Yikes!" I thought, "now where?"

Off to the pharmacy I go, to get my medicine and, yeah, they have lotto tickets!!

As you can tell, I'm not a big ticket purchaser... not even knowing where to purchase these things! But boy do they get addictive when scratching them.

I got a few extra for myself... 6 for sending and 3 for me

and...

no luck today!!!

What a wonderful thing it would have been to match 3 $10,000 amounts (because you need to match 3 amounts to win), and then 2x's it!

I wonder how many lotto tickets I would have to buy to find that one golden ticket?!

I think I'll have my Wonka bar, a nice warm cup of tea and finish sending out

the lucky tickets out to 6 friends. :D

I would like to thank everyone who participated

and sent in photos of their Christmas trees.

It was absolutely amazing to see all those ornaments over the course of

the month of December and a great treat for me to see how they make everyone smile!

So now down to business; the decision of picking the BEST was so difficult:

There's Jamie, who started us off with the contest idea in the first place...

Then there was Nancy, who actually trained her beloved pet to stand watch over her ornaments!!

Or do I choose Colleen - who sent in a photo of the Baby Jesus ornament?

We can't forget the others....

There was Katie, Jo, Fran, Brenda, Jen, Michelle and Lisa...

Who to choose, who to choose.......... ouch!

My head was hurting making this decision, so I decided, why not make EVERYONE a winner!!

Well here it is, Christmas Eve, can you believe it?
I certainly can't believe that an entire year has already passed... incredible!

And here's another entry in our Ornament Contest - our next contestant is - Nancy!
Hey ladies, she may have an edge because I just dig her name!!

Here's her most recent purchase, our Sugarie Delights ornament. It is for her simply cute as a button daughter; who's favorite color is... purple!

You know Nanc, I liking that tree next to my snowman... it's just too cute!

I could be mistaken but I think this was the first ornament that Nancy purchased last year!

This cute little girl can't compare to the cutie it was made for!!

Not everyone is willing to place a guard dog up to protect my ornaments, but my gal Nancy will do whatever it takes to make sure they remain safe and sound!! :D

Our next entry is from Joanna and she is just so Joyful during this

Christmas Season!

The kindness in her heart is so warming and to see her tree just makes

me so proud.

I never realized how everyone decorates with my little creations.

Here's a full length picture of her tree and boy Joanna, it sure looks full!

And here's a close up of the same tree and wow, the snowmen are so

abundant! So even if it's warm outside, she still feels the joy

of building a snowman in her own home!!
